Professor John Griffin is the James A. Elkins Centennial Chair in Finance at McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. He is currently serving as a Board Member of the Western Finance Association. He was also as an Academic Director of the Financial Management Association and served as Associate Editor for the Review of Financial Studies.

Research Interests

  • Forensic finance: securities fraud including financial market anomalies, co-movement, hedge fund performance, insider trading, credit rating misreporting, mortgage misreporting, and cryptocurrencies
  • Structured finance: asset backed securities (ABS), mortgage backed securities (RMBS and CMBS), and collateralized debt obligations (CDO)
  • International finance: determinants of international returns and diversification, and exchange rate exposure
  • Institutional investment: investment banking and hedge fund performance
